FAQ

Athletes will train a few times a week and compete in tournaments on weekends. As the athletes age, the frequency of practices and tournaments will ramp up.
604 Volleyball is a non-profit organization. Fees are set to recover our costs to provide a safe environment for our athletes to thrive and help them get to the next level. There is still a lot of uncertainty around club fees as Volleyball BC is yet to confirm their tournament costs, we estimate that fees will fall between $1200-$2500, a this covers the cost of gym rentals (practices), equipment (balls/cart/med kits), coach costs (honorarium, education). There will be a fee schedule sent out (multiple payment options throughout the season) as the athletes are confirmed.
Athletes and families who need financial assistance are encouraged to apply to the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Program, KidSport Canada, athletics4kids or any other community sport support organization.
604 Volleyball does not believe in the Presigning or Athlete Application process as we believe there is much to be learned through the Tryout Process and we want to see athletes actually earn a spot on a team versus a paper application. Very rarely in life does anyone ever get anything handed to them simply because of loyalty, there is ALWAYS a competition process in all aspects of life, school applications / interviews, job applications / interviews. The club season is a 6 month commitment, athletes should be having conversations with the coaches and should go and see the makeup of the final team, the entire process should be part of your decision. To ask athletes to make a decision 2-3 months prior to the start of the season is something we at 604 Volleyball cannot comprehend! Athletes should attend as many tryouts as they are able to, the reason we are providing three tryout dates is that we understand how competitive of a landscape it is and we want to be able to see as many athletes as possible.
Everyone loves winning but enjoying the process to eventually earn that win is an important part of that journey as we shape young athletes with their continued improvement in their skills. We are stretching their limits to reach their maximum potential as we strive to get better every day. At the younger age groups, we do encourage athletes to remain multisport to be more well rounded, by the time our athletes are at the 16U+ level we are confident that their experiences with 604 Volleyball will be so positive they will choose volleyball as their primary sport. As the practice and tournament schedule is lighter at the younger age groups, athletes will be able to make this work as long as their other coaches/sports are being reasonable. We don’t believe in hijacking an athlete’s life and forcing them to be all in, rather through communication with the coaches at tryouts, proper expectations can be set. The high-performance teams at 17U and 18U are looking for a higher level of commitment, this lines up with the goals of the team and the coaches involved. Athletes at 17/18U are primarily looking to get to the next level and are trying to earn a spot at a post-secondary program. These athletes are very driven high performers and want to play with like-minded individuals that have this growth mindset and very high goals. With that in mind please consider your level of commitment and always communicate with the coaches if there are any concerns.
Practices will be held at community centres and school gymnasiums. Most of the volleyball tournaments will typically be held at school gymnasiums, The Harry Jerome Sports Centre in Burnaby (Volleyball BC) and other community gyms. Provincials for the younger age groups have been held at the TRADEX in Abbotsford, whereas the older age groups will compete out of the Richmond Oval.
